Diabetes — Can You Reduce Your Risk?

The number of people with diabetes rises so high that this disease is a global problem. There are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 starts mainly in childhood and currently doctors do not know how to prevent it. This article deals with type 2, and 90 percent of people with diabetes have this type of diabetes.

Although in the past the type 2 diabetes was considered to be the disease of adults, we have recently dealt with children. However, experts say that the risk of type 2 diabetes can be reduced. A little knowledge of this scourge can be useful to you.

Diabetes is a health problem that causes a person to have too much sugar in the blood. The disease affects the normal process of transferring sugar from the blood vessels to the cells they need to be strong. The result is damage to vital body parts and blood circulation, sometimes leading to anesthesia or foot, blindness or kidney disease. A large number of people with diabetes die from a heart attack or stroke.

Obesity can have a significant impact on diabetes mellitus 2. Experts believe that fat accumulated in the stomach and waist may be a sign that a person is at high risk of developing diabetes. If not, the fat in the liver or liver appears to disrupt the blood sugar regulation. What can you do to reduce your risk of getting into it?

1. Check your blood sugar level if you are in a high-risk group. A health problem is known as diabetes — a condition in which blood sugar is higher than normal — usually precedes diabetes mellitus. If you are overweight, exercise or family than someone who has had diabetes, you may already have a diabetic infection. A blood test can reveal if you have it.
2. Choose nutritious food. It may help you to do the following whenever possible: Eat less than usual. Instead of drinking fruit juice with sugar or acid drinks, drink water, tea or coffee. Eat whole-wheat bread, rice, and pasta for moderation — rather than fodder. Eat raw meat, fish, various types of nuts and beans.

3. Get regular exercise. One expert’s advice is that instead of watching TV, exercise.

  • What made you realize that you are at risk of developing diabetes?

When I checked my condition before entering a new job, the doctor told me that I would soon be diabetic if I didn’t take immediate action. There were four factors that put me at risk of being: I was of a high-risk ethnic group, I was from a family with a history of diabetes, I was overweight and did not exercise. Since I could not change the first two factors, I decided to try to change the last two.

  • What did you do?

I went to a diabetes counselor who explained to me the relationship between diet, exercise, weight, and diabetes. I was determined to change my lifestyle. I started eating twice a meal before I ate other foods. That made me not longing for my junk food on my plate. I became more physically active, something that I had not done for years.

  • To what extent?

In just 18 months, my weight had dropped to 10 percent and I felt that I was easy. I am determined not to go back to my unhealthy habits. Certainly, diabetes should not be taken lightly!
